Telehealth dietitian FAQs
What can a telehealth dietitian help with?
A telehealth dietitian can help with gut symptoms, diabetes, heart health, weight concerns, child feeding, eating disorders, NDIS nutrition therapy and more. The support is similar to an in person appointment, just delivered online.
Can I see a telehealth dietitian if I live in NSW, VIC or other states?
Yes. We provide online dietitian consults across Australia, including QLD, NSW, VIC, WA, SA, TAS, ACT and the NT. You only need a stable internet connection and a phone, tablet or computer.
Are online dietitian appointments as effective as face to face?
For most people, telehealth dietitian sessions are just as effective as clinic visits. You still speak with an Accredited Practising Dietitian, set goals, receive a plan and get follow up support, with the benefit of being in your own space.
What do I need for a telehealth dietitian consult?
You will need a quiet space, a phone, tablet or computer, internet access and your appointment link. It helps to have recent blood tests, a medication list or food records handy, if you have them.
Can I use Medicare, NDIS or private health for telehealth?
Yes. If you have a Medicare EPC (Chronic Disease Management) referral from your GP, you can use it with us, even if the referral names another clinic. As long as the referral is for the correct profession (dietitian), it can usually be accepted. NDIS funding and private health extras may also apply depending on your cover.
My GP referral is addressed to another clinic, can I still use it?
In most cases, yes. Medicare EPC referrals are not provider specific. If your referral is current and written for dietetic services, you can generally use it with our telehealth dietitians. Our admin team can check this for you before your appointment.
Do you offer phone consults as well as video?
Yes. If video is not your preference, we can often offer phone based dietitian consults. You still receive the same evidence based advice and follow up as a video appointment.
Can I see an online dietitian instead of going to a clinic?
Yes. Online dietitian consults allow you to work with an Accredited Practising Dietitian from home rather than attending a clinic. For most nutrition concerns, online and telehealth appointments offer the same level of care as in person visits.
