Enteral Nutrition via a Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) or Percutaneous Endoscopic Jejunostomy (PEJ) is the procedure of introducing a nutritionally complete liquid formula or blended foods directly into an individual's stomach or small intestine via a tube. Nutritionally complete foods are commercially produced whereas blended tube feeds are normal foods that are blended into a liquid meal and then fed down a feeding tube. These feeding options are often used when an individual is no longer able to meet all of their nutrition requirements through oral consumption or if it is no longer safe to consume food orally.
Enternal Nutrition via a PEG/PEJ is first implemented in a hospital where support is provided by the medical team including the clinical dietitian. Following discharge, to your home or support centre, you may require continued support by a private practice dietitian. This is where Simply Nutrition can offer assistance.
