Diabetes dietitian FAQs

What is the difference between a diabetes dietitian and a diabetes nutritionist?

In Australia, dietitians have university qualifications that include medical nutrition therapy. Our Accredited Practising Dietitians provide personalised nutrition care for diabetes. People often search for a diabetes nutritionist, and we can provide the qualified dietetic support they are looking for.

Can a dietitian help lower my HbA1c?

A dietitian can help you identify food, portion and timing changes that may improve blood glucose management. HbA1c is also affected by medication, activity, stress, sleep and other health factors, so we work alongside your treating team.

Do I need to stop eating carbohydrates?

No. Carbohydrate foods affect blood glucose, but they do not usually need to be removed. We help you find suitable amounts, types and timing based on your needs and treatment.

Do you help with prediabetes and insulin resistance?

Yes. A dietitian can help with meal structure, fibre, carbohydrate quality, heart health and sustainable weight changes where relevant.

Can you review my CGM data?

Yes. We can look at patterns and help you test practical changes. Decisions about insulin doses or medication remain with your doctor, endocrinologist or credentialled diabetes educator.

Can I see a diabetes dietitian online?

Yes. We offer telehealth diabetes dietitian appointments across Australia, as well as in-person appointments at selected Queensland locations.

Can I use Medicare or private health insurance?

Medicare rebates may apply if your GP has prepared an eligible referral. Private health extras may also cover dietitian appointments, depending on your policy. Contact our team if you would like help checking your options.
